Cookie's blood test....so there's a fourth option.

After a few emotional days Cookie was off to the vets today to have her blood tests to see how we were progressing with the treatment for her kidney disease. It’s been three weeks since the initial results came back showing her kidney function at stage 3, which is pretty serious stuff.

Our hope was that results showed a stabilisation and we were on the way to managing it. An improvement would be really good news and I did take her today with optimism as she has been so good recently.

Her urine test was done while I was there and there was improvement but nothing really prepared me for the phone call I got from the vet this afternoon. The bloods were back and her kidney function was normal. I could hardly believe it and Luc, our vet was delighted. The hope now is that instead of chronic disease it was an acute reaction to the anti inflamatories though the first blood tests were saying a chronic condition.

It seems the fluids have done the trick at least for now, and we are staying guarded as we don’t want to fully believe she is fully over it. I can’t explain it but I don’t really care we’re just delighted to get these results and the hope to have our Cookie back to full health again.

For now the fluids are going down to every other day and we are monitoring her reaction just to be sure the easing off doesn’t have any detrimental effects. She is staying on the phosphorus binder till it’s finished and will also stay on this diet at least for now but she absolutely loves it and she’s looking really good.

So there was a fourth result that we hadn’t even considered this morning but for today at least we can enjoy this wonderful surprise.
