Five weeks post op for cookie and things are on the up.

Unbelievably Cookie has today reached five weeks post op from her second TPLO surgery in three years. A few weeks ago she seemed to have stalled a little in her recovery and was struggling with two five minute walks a day which was obviously a big concern.

The problem is that due to a kidney issue last year she’s unable to take anti inflammatory’s and she was getting a lot of discomfort. It meant she just didn’t want to walk and so we really needed to look at how to move things forward. After speaking to the vet at Liverpool University SATH it was agreed to reintroduce the Gabapentin to give her added pain relief and hopefully get things going again.

It took a couple of days for them to kick in but they did have an effect and she felt more willing to move around. At the same time Lintbells very kindly sent us some of their YuMOVE 360 and we started her on a double dose in consultation with the Vets at Lintbells. They are keen to work with us on her recovery which will be interesting to assess alongside the other things we’re putting in place.

Fast forward two weeks and Cookie is very happy to do two 10 minute walks a day and we have been able to relax her restrictions in the house a little. The vet also gave us the go ahead to start hydrotherapy and she will be having her first session on Thursday (11/3/2021)

All in all it’s all very positive and she is a lot happier in herself than she’s been for a very long time and that waggy-tailed bouncy girl is really getting her mojo back.

We are very grateful to our own vet Luc Van Dijck and the very professional Liverpool University staff at the Small animal teaching hospital for all of their efforts. Lintbells have been very kind wanting to support Cookie and it is much appreciated at a very difficult time, as she attempts to recover for a second time, as I’m sure you can understand.

It’s worth saying that our insurance company the Insurance Emporium have once again been very easy to deal with and settled all of the bills quickly and without fuss.

Of course we’ll follow up with her progress but for now it’s nice to report some positive news.
