Angell Petco a top food for dogs and a five star review.
I said recently we never do food reviews and here I am doing just that. What I meant is that we never accept food to trial and review as we don’t like to chop and change their diet. I do however really believe in supporting excellent companies and particularly independent dog food manufacturers who use healthy ingredients. I also think it’s important that it’s a product we use or have used ourselves so can vouch for the long term impact of the food.
When we got Cookie as a puppy eight years ago she came with a bag of the food she had been weened onto, Angell Petco superior puppy food. I had never heard of the food or the company before that but totally trusted Cookie’s breeder and so kept her on the food. She thrived on her diet and when it was time to move her over to adult food we put her on the superior adult Salmon and Potato.
Around the same time we were unhappy with the food that we were giving Monty and the spaniels and so decided to change everyone over. They like Cookie did really well on this new diet and just as importantly really enjoyed it.
That was back in 2012 and in all of that time the food has remained consistent, the price reasonable and the service from Angell Petco fantastic. The website will tell you that the Salmon and Potato food is ‘specially crafted from freshly prepared salmon, real potato’s and real peas, with vitamins and minerals added. This perfectly balanced grain free hypoallergenic food contains nothing but naturally occurring wholesome goodness’. The important thing for us is that what that means is that all of our dogs have remained healthy, energetic, and very happy. The other thing that all dog owners obsess about is what comes out the other end. I can guarantee categorially that the food delivers in that department as well……nice firm newfypoos.
Not only have we used the food with fantastic results over the years but all of our dogs have been given Angell Petco salmon oil which we use to keep their coats and joints healthy. Monty and Cookie as giant breeds suffer with their joints but our postman would agree that even at almost Ten Monty is still moving like a dog half his age. Since her Cruciate ligament operation Cookie has really relied on any added joint support she can get and the salmon oil has been vital for her.
I can’t leave the review without mentioning the treats. Our gang absolutely love the fish treats from Angell Petco. When Cookie was a little(ish) puppy we bought the fish flatties (now replaced by the fish fingers) and at bedtime I did a silly song which was ‘It’s fish flattie time, fish flattie time, fish flattie, fish flattie, fish flattie time’ Well Cookie would appear from anywhere in the house on hearing that song, ready for her evening treat. Though I stopped the singing due to household hooman pressure, even eight years later if I sing that she will come bouncing into the room, slobbering of course.
In all seriousness I can’t recommend Angell Petco highly enough really. The dogs love the food and have done really well on it, they are reliable, reasonably priced, have fantastic healthy ingredients and are wonderful to deal with.
This review was written due to our very good experience of the food and was not requested or paid for.
